Massage School > Personal Training

Learn the art of massage and holistic bodywork for recreation or take certified industry standard programs for work or self employment. These short courses can introduce you to the wonderful world of holistic bodywork or extend your skills and help to improve and grow your practice.

Public massage classes are not for everyone and with one to one tuition and practice on voluntary models, students get full instruction and support. Courses may be customised to suit, for instance; the intermediate module can be altered to better suit occupational heath, aged care, sports massage or other end use and discounts may apply when learning with a friend.

1. Relaxation and Stress Release
   A soft flowing introductory massage to release tension and induce relaxation.
   • Learn simple, enjoyable and very relaxing massage techniques
   • 2 x 2 hour lessons - in one day or two.
   • Receive a 45min massage from the instructor

4. Me, Myself and I
   Especially for massage therapists and body workers, A 2 hour look at our bodies, how they work holistically including
   • Body Structure
   • Why physical problems develop and
   • How bodily awareness and affirmative actions can improve life quality and physical functionality
   • A continuous 2 hour class.

5. Art in movement
   A two hour class for body workers showing how to flow and use your body more efficiently so that you avoid stress accumulation and more effectively move around your table to deliver a higher quality treatment.

Certified Holistic Bodywork Courses

• Introductory Massage Certificate
  Learn massage as a career taster and to teat friends and family
  • A minimum of 8 hours massage instruction and practice on voluntary models
    • learn over 2 or 3 days.
  • Includes
    • Massage health and safety,
    • Massage theory,
    • Massage mediums and using essential oils (principals of aromatherapy)
    • Massage techniques
    • A full body massage including feet, head and face
  • Students receive a one hour massage from the instructor.

• Intermediate Massage & Holistic Bodywork Level 1 Certificate
  Get your massage career started
  • 12 hours massage instruction and practice on voluntary models typically over 3 - 5 days subject to the availability of models
  • Six months membership to our online student manual.
  • Graduate with Level one practitioners certificate
  • For students who have not taken the introductory course at The Quiet Mind Body Shop, applicants must first pass an assessment.

    • Mastering the basic massage strokes
    • Mastering a full body massage
    • Deep tissue massage
    • Common ailments and treatments - i.e. massage techniques to give relief of symptoms.
    • Holistic bodywork application
    • Principals of Energy Healing
    • Clinic, client and business management
    • For anatomy & physiology - skeleton muscles & body systems.  An anatomy text book is required that you study in your own time.
    • Putting it all together in a practical examination and review
    • Students receive a one hour massage from the instructor which includes the application all the techniques contained in the course.
    • After completing instruction, students must complete ten massages and have the people they have massaged complete a questionnaire
    • Students must pass a 90 minute practical and 10min oral exam. (For students visiting Christchurch, the exam can be taken via skype.)

1. Therapists Self Care Program
   A two hour module on movement and how to work as a therapist so that you move around the table with ease to avoid back aches and repetitive stress injuries. Learn elements of dance, yoga and self stress release.
   • Two hours and can be taken as 4 x 1/2 hour sessions

2. Hot Stone Massage
   For students who have graduated the intermediate massage course or therapists who have been working in the industry for some time.
   A three hour introduction to using the stones and incorporating them into your current massage system.
   • Three hours and can be taken as a continuous 3 hour class.

7. Body Sculpting
   Simply put, this is moving the flab, and the creative use of body sculpting can:
   • Help someone into those jeans that are just to tight
   • Lift and enhance the bust
   • Reduce cellulite
   • Fee, $60.00/hr and lessons are dependent on the availability of a willing model.
      
8. Yogassage - only available to students who maintain a personal yoga practice.
   All applicants must first pass an assessment and the time learning is dependent of the outcome of your assessment. Course Information.

Non Residential
We are located seven minutes drive time from the central city on the city circuit bus route. While these courses are advertised as intensives, local residents may take these courses at their leisure.

Residential Programs
The above courses are available for residential students. We have a lovely home, a furnished room, library, internet access and a nice garden. We are located on a bus route and the city is nearby for shopping and further exploration between classes. This is a rare opportunity for a relaxing and educational holiday in the lovely Christchurch City. More Info.

• Optional extras include massage tables, a massage starter kit including base oil and essential oils.
