Massage School > Public Classes
Our public classes are educational evenings out where you relax as you learn.
Your teacher explains and demonstrates the techniques and then you get to
practice on the student you are paired with. Guidance and correction are
provided as required.
The classes are small with 4 - 6 people which means your get plenty of personal
guidance to understand and treat the human body with safety and confidence at our Philpotts Rd address
in
Christchurch.
Introductory Massage - scroll down for intermediate.
 A
12 hour
practical hands on course using oils/waxes to help ease stress from tired and
tight muscles, relieve aches and pains.
This is a foundation course for all massage styles, (Swedish, Ayurvedic etc.),
and not only will you have a relaxing evening out for less than the price of many
entertainments, you will learn how to give a full body massage
including hand and foot reflexology, head massage and facials.
This course introductory course runs one Tuesday evening per week over 6 weeks
and is available to Christchurch residents. It also can be taken by
private tuition or
correspondence.

Class format
Explanation - Demonstration and guided practice.
Class duration - two hours
In class your teacher will explain and demonstrate massage techniques
which you then
practice on another class member and they practice on you, the teacher
assists as needed.

Lesson one
Covers health and safety, theory, massage mediums, massage to the back.

Lesson two
Review of massage to the back neck and shoulders & backs of the legs.

Lesson three
The feet including basic reflexology and fronts of the legs

Lesson four
Body front, arms and hands (chest massage is optional),

Review what has been covered plus neck, face and head massage

Putting it all together as a full body massage

- Everyone completing the course is issued with a certificate as a pdf
file emailed to them that can be stored or printed.
- A printed certificate may be requested, printed in nice paper at an
additional cost of $5.00.

Intermediate Level 1
Getting your massage and healing arts career underway
Massage is a popular service in medical and sports clinics and it is also an ideal
home or part time business. It is also one of the most portable businesses that you can take anywhere in the world with a minimum of effort; Have hands, can travel.
This intermediate certificate course is recommended as the minimum amount of training required to begin working as a massage therapist and further training is encouraged. Please note that you must have already completed our introductory course or pass an
assessment to join this class.
Class duration: 24 hours over 12 weeks plus a 2 hour exam. As a Public Class
Classes are conducted one evening per week with an explanation, demonstration, guided practice and a lifetime membership to the on line student manual. - In Class Training in Christchurch where students practice on each other with topics covering:
- Health and Safety
- Massage theory and practice
- Mastering the basic massage strokes
- Mastering a full body massage
- Remedial & Deep tissue massage
- The cause of physiological breakdown or why the body degenerates and solutions for a healthier and longer life.
This element takes into consideration the we use our bodies and the effects of stress with massage as a key remedy.
- Common ailments and treatments
- spinal problems including back & neck pain
- head aches / migraines
- reproductive issues including menopausal discomfort, menstrual pain and irregularity.
- repetitive stress and other injuries including frozen shoulder/ tennis elbow.
- Holistic bodywork elements and philosophy
- Principals of Energy Healing
- Clinic, client and business management
- Students are required to study anatomy & physiology in their own time to become more familiar with the skeleton, muscles & body systems. An anatomy colouring book is recommended.
- Students must complete ten massages and have the people they have massaged complete a questionnaire.
- Putting it all together in a 2 hour practical examination and review
- Class size 4 - 6 students.

Requirements:
- To have already completed an introductory course or pass an
assessment.
- For certification
- full
attendance is required
- students must demonstrate competency in the class
- students must complete 10 massages in their own time and have the people
they massage complete a questionnaire
- for graduation, students demonstrate competency in what they have learned
by answering 10-15 minutes of oral questions and demonstrating a competent 90
minute massage.
