Vrksasana - Tree Pose
Pronounced (vrik-SHAHS-anna) vrksa = tree
From Tadasana, transfer your weight gently onto the left foot, and raise your
right knee.
Reach down with your right hand and clasp your right ankle.
Place your right foot with the heel against the inner left thigh; if possible,
press the heel into the inner left groin between the adductor muscles with the
toes pointing toward the floor.
When you have stabilized, release the ankle, stand as tall as possible,
lengthening your tailbone toward the floor. Firmly press the right foot sole
against the inner thigh and resist with the outer left leg as you open the right
knee back until it is level with your hip. Rotate the arms outward and raise
them above the head and press your hands together in Anjali Mudra.
Stay for 30 seconds to 1 minute. Step back to Tadasana with an exhalation and
repeat for the same length of time with the legs reversed.
If balance is a problem, stand near a wall and practice balancing until
competent.
